THEME: GRATITUDE

On February 26, 2022, the Vixen Photography Solo Exhibition was officially launched at the Nhabe Museum in Maun, Botswana. This exclusive, sold-ticket event was an evening of artistic expression and storytelling, featuring a poetry performance, a curated photography showcase, a complimentary gift for attendees, and gourmet finger foods.

The exhibition was more than just a celebration of photography; it marked a personal milestone—Vixen Excursions Managing Director’s 40th birthday—and embodied the theme “GRATITUDE.” This theme symbolized my deep appreciation for the transformative power of photography, which has allowed her to capture and share Botswana’s diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and extraordinary wildlife.

The Exhibition & Purpose

The showcase featured 32 carefully curated photographs, each aimed at raising awareness about conservation, climate change, and sustainable tourism. The images spanned various regions of Botswana, highlighting:

The theme of the exhibition, IKIGAI, is derived from the Japanese concept meaning “reason for being.” It represents the pursuit of passion, purpose, and impact—three elements deeply reflected in the artist’s journey through photography. This exhibition was a testament to the power of finding meaning through art and using it to contribute to the world.

This exhibition was more than just a visual showcase; it was a powerful narrative of Botswana’s natural and cultural heritage. Through compelling imagery, the exhibition highlighted:

By blending photography with art, the exhibition created an immersive experience that bridged storytelling and conservation advocacy, offering visitors a deeper understanding of Botswana’s ecosystems. Each photograph provided a window into the wild, capturing natural moments of wildlife in their habitats while also portraying the resilience and resourcefulness of communities that coexist with nature.

A Commitment To Conservation & Female Empowerment

Nature and wildlife photography plays a crucial role in global conservation efforts. It serves as a tool for raising awareness, sparking dialogue, and inspiring action. The images displayed were not just about beauty; they were about impact—addressing the challenges of human-wildlife interaction, climate change, and sustainable tourism.

As a female-led exhibition, this event was also dedicated to empowering women in photography. By aligning with Botswana’s Vision 2036 Pillars 1, 2, and 3, the exhibition aimed to inspire more women to pursue photography and recognize its potential as a career and a tool for change. The artist’s work also served to market Botswana as a premier ecotourism destination for both local and international visitors.

This exhibition was more than an event—it was a celebration of Botswana’s natural beauty, a platform for impactful storytelling, and an inspiration for future generations of photographers.

2024 Photography Competition & Exhibition: “The Beauty of Botswana Through Our Lens”

THEME: IKAGAI

Following the success of our solo exhibitions in 2022 and 2023, we took a bold step in 2024 by expanding our platform to include other talented Botswana photographers. The “Beauty of Botswana Through Our Lens” exhibition was a collaborative event designed to celebrate and showcase the artistry of photographers across the country.

About The Exhibhition

For the first time, we launched a nationwide photography competition, inviting Batswana photographers aged 18 and above to submit their best work in five categories:

The selected winners were awarded the opportunity to have their work featured in this prestigious exhibition, which was officially opened by Mr. L. Boyce Sebetela.

Strategically Timed for Tourism & Growth

As an annual event, the exhibition was strategically scheduled during the peak tourism season, with hope to draw both local and international visitors. This initiative not only elevated Botswana’s standing as a top photographic destination but we hoped it would also provide an opportunity for photographers to gain exposure to a global audience.
